Mojito’s origin still has many different theories

Mojito was born because the price of Rhum increased

Some documents suggest that when the price of rhum rose in the 17th century, people in Cuba used cheaper rhum combined with ingredients such as lemon juice and mint to enhance the flavor.

Captain Francis Drake invented Mojito

Another theory suggests that Mojito originated in the 16th century and was invented by Captain Francis Drake. Upon reaching Havana and successfully invading the Cartagena in 1586, the sailors contracted dysentery. At this time, the captain used a fermented water from sugar cane to overcome the above situation. And this water is the forerunner of rum.

Other theories

In addition to the two theories above, some documents suggest that Mojito was created by African slaves in Cuba, when they were working in the fields in the 19th century. Others believe that the name Mojito comes from Moji (a taste enhancer for Cuban dishes). And you will also encounter the theory that Mojito is derived from Mojidato
