Mojito originates from the traditional Cuban beverage. The story of Mojito’s origin still has many different theories.

 

Mojito was born because the price of Rhum increased

Some documents suggest that when the price of rhum rose in the 17th century, people in Cuba used cheaper rhum combined with ingredients such as lemon juice and mint to enhance the flavor. 

Captain Francis Drake invented Mojito

Another theory suggests that Mojito originated in the 16th century and was invented by Captain Francis Drake. Upon reaching Havana and successfully invading the Cartagena in 1586, the sailors contracted dysentery. At this time, the captain used a fermented water from sugar cane to overcome the above situation. And this water is the forerunner of rum.

Other theories

In addition to the two theories above, some documents suggest that Mojito was created by African slaves in Cuba, when they were working in the fields in the 19th century. Recipe for Raspberry Mojito & Strawberry Mojito

The traditional taste of Mojito is quite simple, they are a combination of Rhum, mint leaves, soda, fresh lime. If you want to add a little taste of Da Lat to your Mojito, the following 2 recipes will create an impressive result. 

Raspberry Mojito 

Raspberry Mojito brings a sweet and sour taste, lingering a light spicy taste. It is not too tough for the preparation, below will be the basic recipe for your reference.

Ingredients

Prepare the following ingredients for this recipe:

• 60ml White Rhum 

• 150 Soda water

• Fresh Raspberry: 5 - 6 offset. 

• Lime: 1/2 offset.

• 10 Mint leaves

• 1 teaspoon sugar

• Ice cube

Processing:

• Primirily, wash the raspberries, limes, and mint leaves and let them dry. 

• Put all above ingredients in a glass, use a muddler to puree and mix well. 

• Continue to add some ice to the top layer, pour 60ml of Rhum and 150ml of Soda respectively to get the final product. 

• If you want more sweetness or spiciness, adjust the ratio of alcohol and soda

Strawberry Mojito 

The sweetness from Strawberry Mojito will make your mood much more relaxed. Try making your own with the following recipe.

Ingredients

Proportion of materials:

• 10ml White Rhum 

• 200ml Soda water

• Fresh Strawberries: 2 offset 

• 10ml Concentrated Lime

• Water mint (different with peppermint): 5 leaves.

• 1 teaspoon sugar

• Ice cube

Processing

• Wash strawberries, dry and dice

• Put diced strawberries into a glass, with 5 water mint leaves, 10ml lime concentrate, 10g sugar. Use a muddler to puree the ingredients and mix well. 

• Fill the glass with ice, then the wine and finally the soda.

• The final result will have an impressive color you can adjust the ratio of ingredients to personal interest.
